Biography

Ned A. Bacon and his wife, Linda, reside in Naperville, Ill., and have two children and three grandchildren. After a long career as a structural engineer, Bacon retired in April of 2012 and currently volunteers at Loaves & Fishes Pantry in Naperville, where he holds leadership roles.

Bacon’s career spanned 39 years at Chicago Bridge & Iron Company (CB&I) and included roles in engineering, technical development and business development. He managed various engineering and technology departments and offices and held key positions, including Chief Engineer and Vice President Plate Structures Engineering and Technology.

As Chief Engineer at CB&I, Bacon’s responsibilities included general worldwide CB&I technical policy, standards and design practices, as well as direct responsibility for technical support groups including Civil and Foundations Engineering, Welding Technology, Construction Technology, Insulation Technology, Proprietary Equipment, Materials Engineering and the CB&I Information Resource Center. He also provided general technical oversight functions including engineering subcontracting and technical consulting agreements, failure investigations, patent administration, technical papers and litigation with technical content. As VP Plate Structures Engineering and Technology, in addition to Chief Engineer functions, he was responsible for overall management of CB&I plate structures engineering offices worldwide.

Bacon’s formal education includes an M.S. in civil engineering from Illinois (1973) and a B.S. in civil engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology (1972).
